How to Keep Your Spine Healthy

Instead of using your upper body or back to lift the item, try to use your legs and knees. Bend your knees so that your arms are level with the item. Keep your back straight and your head down. Avoid lifting items that are too heavy.

If you sleep on your stomach, you should try changing your sleeping position so that you can sleep on your side. When you sleep on your stomach, you put an excessive amount of pressure on your spine. If you sleep on your side, you can keep your hips balanced by placing a pillow between your knees. Those who sleep on their back instead of their side or stomach can place a pillow between their knees to reduce the amount of stress on their lower back.
